Social Media Buzz: Know How, What, When and Where to Socialize About Business

By Terri Stallcop

Would you like to have a crystal ball to know where you should spend your time networking at social media sites in order to build your business? And if talking too much about your own business is spamming, what do you talk about? How does socializing online translate to marketing?

How To Socialize To Build Your Business

You absolutely have to be real when interacting with real people. Otherwise, being online at social media sites can actually do more harm to your business than good. How to socialize online is becoming one of the most important strategies in Internet marketing for any business.

Even large corporations are finding out how to be a better networker online. Imagine big business putting a real person on Twitter to respond to complaints for all the world to see! It’s happening with excellent increased business results.

The opposite is also true. Many people these days are hurting their business image, trying to take a marketing short cut on social media sites. They set up tons of profiles on way too many social networks. Their profiles are practically empty and their conversations are one-sided, like “Great article. Come visit me at xxx.com!” That’s spam. Don’t do it.

What Creates Social Media Buzz?

Social buzz is the very best marketing any business can have. Word of mouth advertising has always been the most powerful. You can’t buy it. You have to earn it. It’s the same online as it is off.

To create social buzz now, join three or four social networks, not 25 of them. To begin:

  • Join two that have an audience related to your niche and
  • Join two that are less targeted but in the ballpark.

Spend time reading articles at each site, read the comments, and read forum discussions. After you get a feel for the culture at each site, add to the value. That’s it! That’s all you have to do. Don’t even mention your business. Just be sure your profile is complete. People will see the value you give to the network and check out your profile and visit your website or blog. If they like it, they will bookmark it, share it, etc.

When To Socialize Online

When should you socialize online and how often? Right now and very often! Be sure to comment on other people’s work. Every day, create a little buzz for people who inspire you. Visit their websites and make interesting comments. Create social media buzz for others every day and they will do the same for you.

Where To Socialize Online

You will definitely want to add Google Friend Connect to your social calendar. Spend time reading about this huge project. Begin reading about it now, not later. Also consider learning much more about:

· Twitter,

· BetterNetworker and

· FriendFeed.

Read about how big business is all a twitter. Watch videos at Betternetworker and make comments. Syndicate other people’s websites at FriendFeed more than your own. And then write about what you’re learning at all three sites. And, one more thing – make a few 5 minute videos to add value to the social scene. Put them on YouTube and Metacafe and double the social buzz!

Best Social Networking Sites for Network Marketing Recruiting

Social networking web sites are a great vehicle for network marketing recruiting. It is a far more powerful and effective way to build your network marketing business than using “three foot rule” prospecting.

This is because using social networking sites, you can recruit 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and you can focus your efforts on prospects that have a greater propensity to participate in a network marketing business.

So what are the best social networking sites for network marketing recruiting? There are a number of different social sites that you can use for prospecting purposes. The key is to find web sites that you can effectively capitalize on your prospecting efforts.

MySpace

If you are considering marketing on social networking web sites, you cannot make a serious consideration on this subject without considering MySpace.com. MySpace is the #1 social networking site on the internet. MySpace gets the most traffic with over 60 million users as of May 2008.

Facebook

The #2 social networking web site on the internet is facebook.com. This web site is also worth strong consideration. They have over 40 million users as of May 2008 and they are growing rapidly.

One of the critiques about Myspace is that there are a lot of teenage users on the web site. Facebook caters to a more mature audience, consisting of college students and older. Many network marketers prefer Facebook because of its cleaner interface and older audience. However, Myspace has superior search capabilities to Facebook.

LinkedIn

Another social networking web site that is worthy of consideration is LinkedIn.com. This site focuses more on the business community and  professional marketplace, making it a great place for network marketing recruiting.

If you are looking for a higher quality prospect, this is an excellent network to take advantage of. While not at the numbers of Myspace and Facebook, because of its professional niche, this website has the potential for stronger performance than the top two social networking sites.

Twitter

A very popular, relatively new social networking site worth consideration is twitter.com. Twitter has rapidly risen to become a top 1000 website on the internet. It allows you to send mini messages to a large number of people. With twitter you can build a following of people to your list and then communicate with them through the form of short messages. By providing messages of value you can generate leads.

BetterNetworker

If you are looking for a social networking web site that targets network marketers specifically you may want to look at betternetworker.com. The better networker website is a social networking site that is designed to allow networking with other network marketers. You can create profiles, add video, articles and more. The website has thousands of members who are actively building a network marketing business.

While this is certainly not an exhaustive list, there’s no way you will really know which social networking sites work best for you until you try them for yourself. By testing and tracking your results, you will be able to accurately determine which social networking sites are the best for building customer relationships and lead generation. You will see the pay-off in your network marketing recruiting numbers.
