Building On A Budget Using CraigsList
Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at 03:14PM In his course Building On A Budget, Mike Dillard recommends Craigslist to advertise your network marketing business. There are two ways that most network marketing distributors use Craigslist.
The first is to post ads promoting their products or opportunity. The second is to contact people whose resumes are posted on the web site.
Why Promoting Your Network Marketing Opportunity Is Not The Best Use Of Craigslist
There are several reasons why promoting your network marketing opportunity and contacting people with resumes on Craigslist is not the most effective use of your time. There are hundreds if not thousands of other network marketing distributors doing the same thing. What are you doing to separate yourself from those other distributors?
If you are simply promoting your network marketing opportunity directly, there is nothing that separates you from the competition. Therefore your only chance of generating leads is if someone just happens to come across your ad and like it.
You want to stand out among the crowd so that good prospects are attracted to your offer over the others.
Contacting people who have resumes posted on Craigslist is also not the most effective use of your time. People who post resumes are they are looking for a job. That doesn’t mean they are interested in a network marketing business opportunity. This means you will have to go through a large number of people to find the ones that will even be serious prospects for your business.
What Building On A Budget Recommends As The Best Use Of Craigslist
In the Building On A Budget course, Mike Dillard recommends that the best use of Craigslist is to use it as a lead generator for the promotion of some type of free information product. Instead of promoting your network marketing opportunity directly, promote a report that reveals how to have success with internet network marketing.
Your ad will attract network marketing distributors who are already in a network marketing company. While they certainly won’t be prospects for your opportunity, you can make them affiliate offers of related network marketing training and monetize. This gives you additional income to invest back into your internet network marketing campaign.
Secondly, your ad will attract serious prospects doing their research on network marketing companies. A prospect that wants to learn how to be successful, and is already looking at network marketing opportunities will be interested in reviewing some type of generic information product that explains how to do what they want to do.
In Building on a Budget, Mike Dillard teaches two ways to use Craigslist
- Promote information products.
- Use tools and strategies that make advertising on Craigslist more efficient and effective.

That helped me understand the use of Craigs list much better. Thanks
Thanks for the great article. Craigslist is a great free tool. I have used to to promote my consulting clients businesses, and have at times, had really good success with it. I have found that recently, it is a lot more difficult to set up effective ad campaigns on Craigslist, because any sort of repetition in ads sets of their filters, and your ads get pulled. Also, I have found that competitors will tag your ads for removal, so you have to really be creative when writing your ads. It is still a worthwhile tool though, and I am getting ready to set up a new Craigslist campaign for my business.
My girlfriend and I have used Craigslist from time to time for our real estate business. It really is a no cost way to advertise our rental properties to basically cover anyone not using a broker/agent seeking a place to rent. I wanted to use it also in my MLM business but just wasnt sure because of the restrictions that my company put in place about advertising..Im really glad that I've become a member of the Renegade Professional Community.
