Network Marketing Training vs. Field Training
Monday, September 22, 2008 at 03:15PM In network marketing there are two types of training. There is regular network marketing training and there is field training.
While there is certainly a place for both types of training, there is a debate going on in the network marketing industry as to which training is best for new people.

What is Regular Network Marketing Training?
When you recruit a brand new distributor into your network marketing organization, what is the next step to take with that distributor? If the next step is for that distributor to attend some type of organized training, this is referred to as regular training.
Organized network marketing training is any type of training where information on how to build the business is disseminated to the distributor by an authority figure. The training can take place in any format.
For instance, some network marketing companies have mandatory classroom trainings that distributors must attend before they can start marketing the products.
Other companies send out training CDs or DVDs to new distributors to review.
If you are building your team using an internet network marketing approach, you might have your own recommended training to which you refer your distributors.
For example, you might recommend that your distributors sign up for a program like the Renegade University training program offered by Marketing Merge. This way they can learn step by step exactly what they must do in order to build their business using internet network marketing strategies.
What is Field Training?
Field training is similar to another term you might be familiar with known as on the job training. This is when you take a distributor out in the field and actually show him or her how you work the business.
The way this is typically done is to have the distributor generate some leads. You then prospect those leads or contacts for the distributor. The new distributor watches as you prospect and recruit them.
Depending on how your network marketing company is set up or how your team does things, those prospects would either become a part of the new distributor’s organization or they would automatically get passed up to you as a part of your organization.
Is One Form of Network Marketing Training Better than the Other?
It all depends on the circumstances around how the distributor was recruited and what method you use to build your business.
For instance, if you prospected the distributor locally and you build your business using traditional network marketing strategies, field training can be some of the best type of training you can provide.
Even if you build your business using internet network marketing strategies, field training can be very effective if you and your distributor are local.
However, you may have to provide some initial regular network marketing training so that you and your distributor are on the same page before field training.
On the other hand, recruiting a distributor long distance makes it very difficult to do field training. Your recruit lives too far away for you to actually go in person and recruit for him.
In fact in some network marketing companies, if you recruit a distributor that lives too far from you, it is required that you assign them to another distributor that is local to them. You split your commissions and the local distributor trains your new recruit.
So understand that there are benefits and disadvantages to both training styles. You just need to know when one style works better than the other and use it accordingly.
