Search engines rely on keywords and keyword phrases to bring up the proper content when people are searching for whatever they are looking for. So it is very important that you have a complete understanding of the search engine optimization rules that govern the use of keywords in your articles or other website content that you produce.
In this article I'm going to be looking into how to find the proper keywords for your specific product.
Keyword Research the Foundation to Search Engine Domination!
One of the biggest mistakes I see a lot of new online marketers make is getting too caught up in writing an article for their website or blog without first considering how people will find them online. There is no magic trick that will get you to the top of Google, but there are search engine optimization rules that need to be followed to get you there.
Finding the right keyword phrase to use in your content can be the difference to generate massive leads like an interstate highway as opposed to an old dirt road.
So how do you find the right keywords to use?
It’s called keyword research and it starts by understanding your target market. Knowing what your target market is looking for can greatly reduce the time spent researching for keywords.
Once you determine what it is they want, you can start to find exact phrases that the majority type into the search bar by using free tools like freekeywords.wordtracker.com. This is where you need to take extra time to really understand what you are trying to accomplish because an improper keyword phrase could get you a lot of traffic, but very little conversion.
Finding Highly Targeted Keyword Phrases
The goal is to find a keyword phrase that is targeted towards buyers of your specific products, or business opportunity not just people doing research on it.
You also want to start out by finding long tail keywords that are not to competitive until you get yourself established online then you can expand to more competitive words. By long tail keywords I mean keyword phrases with 3 or 4 words in them.
By using long tail keywords you can more easily reach a specific target market and generate your own leads that are more apt to purchase from you than what you would get if you used a single keyword to optimize for.
As an example if you where selling a herbal tea that was good for headaches you would get much better results optimizing for herbal tea for headaches than you would for herb tea.
Even though getting to the top of the search engines with herb tea could get you much more traffic I would bet that you would get more sales from people searching for a remedy for headaches using the longtail keyword phrase than you ever would using just herb tea.
I didn’t research that exact phrase it was an example only to make a point and might not have enough searches to make it effective, but it does show you the search engine optimization rules of keyword research that you need to follow in order to get your site found by your target group.
