Learning Search Engine Optimization Rules in Relation to Silo Structures

By Becky Joubert

Learning search engine optimization rules has to do with simply following thru with the basics of SEO; like keywords, on-page optimization, and off-page optimization.

One of the problems that new Internet Marketers have is learning how to organize, and optimize their content correctly, instead of having a pile of poorly related content.

Learning how to create Silo Structures in your blog or website can have a huge impact on your Internet success and affect your results in Internet Network Marketing by bringing you targeted traffic and leads.

To understand Silo Structures is to visualize an outline like you had to do in school. You had to create a subject or title, and then create sections that contained chapters that all worked with your title of your research paper. Silo Structures have everything linked together with a common theme, and related keywords.

Search engine optimization rules dictate that Silo Structures are a bit more tightly structured in that they could stand alone, as a book on its own if need be, but that each “section” or Silo-Structured category clearly falls under the comprehensive title chosen for your site. Your keywords that you spent time researching, for low competition and number of searches, would be your sections, or categories, that create each Silo Structure. Your web pages would be like chapters underneath your sections.

Another reason, beyond the obvious traffic results, for learning search engine optimization rules is that following the rules for Silo Structures makes your site very accessible and organized for search engine bots to index your site. And, the LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing), or the relevance of a website determined by Google, means that if your site is Silo-Structured and the keywords used are relevant to your topic, then you must be an Internet Network Marketing authority on your target market. Up goes your page rank possibilities and search engine traffic.

Let’s use an example that relates to Internet Network Marketing. I have a site that promotes nutritional supplements. My title is Nutritional Supplementation. My sections, or Silo Structures, are Meal Replacement Shakes, Daily Multi-Vitamins, Antioxidants, Weight Loss Supplements, and Special Nutritional Needs. Those Silo Structures should be keywords that I carefully researched for effectiveness. There would be pages underneath those sections, like Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids under Special Nutritional Needs. Each of my sections, or Silo Structures, stand alone yet still fall under the title of Nutritional Supplementation., and Google knows these terms are all related in regards to nutrition.

Another important search engine optimization rule is to avoid linking from one Silo Structure page to another. If you want to link within your site, you should link from a specific page or article to another Silo section, but do not link from page to page. For example, I can link from the Omega 3 page over to the section on Antioxidants, but it’s not helpful if I link to a page in the Antioxidant category. When using backlinks, it is preferable to link directly to the article that uses the same keywords I am linking from. So I can link directly to my Omega 3 page, or article contained there when links are coming from outside my site.

By following search engine optimization rules on using Silo Structures, you can create more traffic to your site, and rank higher than if your site was not optimized, organized, and carefully constructed with effective keywords.

With Search Engine Marketing, your site will be judged on the organization of your Silo Structures and the relevance of your topic and keywords, and less on other forces that are harder to control, like backlinks from other sites that aren’t yours. It’s nice to know that Google will actually be evaluating what you’ve created on your site, and awarding you with page rank and quality traffic just by learning search engine optimization rules.
